After about an hour and forty-five minute rain delay started last night Pirates Cubs games, the Pirates lost another pitcher’s duel 1-0. In the second inning, Kyle Schwarber hit a solo home run against Pirates starting pitcher Trevor Williams. Cole Hamels for the Cubs pitched seven scoreless innings to get the win for the Cubs and Trevor Williams took the loss. The Cubs turned a record seven double plays in last night’s game, the game ended on a David Freese double play. The Pirates are now one game under .500 with 39 games left in the season. The Pirates are currently six and half games behind Milwaukee for a Wild Card spot. Cubs and Pirates are back in action tonight, catch all the coverage starting with the pre-game on WISR 680am at 6:40 P.M. and first pitch is set for 7:05 P.M. Tonight’s starting pitchers are Tyler Chatwood (4-5, 5.06 ERA) for the Cubs and Joe Musgrove (4-7, 3.49 ERA) for the Pirates.
In Double-A baseball, the Altoona Curve defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 8-1 last night. The Curve are now 66-54 on the season. The Curve and Sea Dogs are back in action against each other tonight at 6 in Portland, Maine. The Curve have less than two weeks left in the regular season.
In Monster Energy Series NASCAR Cup racing, they are at the Bristol Motor Speedway tonight. Hear the race on WBUT 1050am and wbut.com beginning at 5:30 P.M. with the pre-race show.
