The Pittsburgh Pirates have named Ivan Nova as their opening day starting pitcher. The Bucs open their season March 29th in Detroit. Nova pitched 187 innings last year with a 4.14 ERA. Jameson Taillon will start the Pirates home opener April 2nd against Minnesota.
The Pirates lost 11-4 to Toronto in Grapefruit League play Wednesday. Tyler Glasnow started for the Pirates and went 2-2/3rds innings. He allowed six earned runs on six hits. Glasnow walked three and struck out five. Josh Bell hit his first home run of the preseason.
The Pirates host Detroit today at 1:05pm at LECOM Park in Bradenton. It is the first televised game of the year on AT&T SportsNet and the MLB Network.
