High School Sports:
Boys Basketball:
–Mars will play Franklin Regional for the WPIAL 5A championship tonight at the Petersen Events Center. Both teams enter the game 20-4 overall. Tip-off is 9pm.
–Pine-Richland will face Penn Hills Sautday at the Petersen Events Center in the 6A title game. The Rams are the two-time defending champions. Tip-off is 9pm.
–New Castle and Quaker Valley meet in the 4A championship game at The Pete Saturday at 1pm.
Girls Basketball:
–Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (21-3) will meet Beaver (18-5) in the WPIAL 4A championship game tonight at the Petersen Events Center. Tip-off is 7pm.
–The North Allegheny girls (24-0) will face Peters Township (21-3) in the 6A title game Saturday at 7pm, also at the Petersen Events Center.
–The Karns City boys and girls will face Brockway in the District-9 championship games tonight at Clarion University. The girls game will begin at 5pm. The boys game at 6:30pm.
–AC Valley (20-5) will meet undefeated North Clarion (25-0) in the 1A championship game Saturday at 1pm, also at Clarion University.
–The Slippery Rock girls will meet Harbor Creek in the District-10 championship game.
Swimming:
–Butler high school’s Laura Goettler won the WPIAL Class 3A 200 Individual Medley championship Thursday at the Pitt Trees Pool.
–Mars high school’s Andrew Pierre won the WPIAL Class 2A 200-freestyle championship.
Both move on to the PIAA championships March 14th and 15th at Bucknell University. Also qualifying for the state championships were: Andrew Ivory of Mars in the 200 IM and Matt Karenbauer of Knoch in the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly.
