The Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the Boston Bruins 8-4 last night, for their third loss in a row. The Pens allowed five Bruins goals in the first period. Goaltender Casey DeSmith was chased from the game in the opening period after allowing three goals on five shots.The Pens scored three goals in seven shots in the opening period, but allowed Boston to go 3-of-5 on the power play. The Pens went 0-for-4. Defenseman Olli Maata scored twice.
The Pens did not lose any ground in the Metropolitan Division after Philadelphia lost to Carolina 4-1 and New Jersey fell to Florida 3-2.
The Pens host the New York Islanders Saturday at PPG Paints Arena. Face-off is 5pm. Pre-game on WISR will be 4:30pm.
Evgeni Malkin was named the NHL’s Second Star for the month of February. Malkin had 10 goals and 21 points over 12 games. He was the NHL’s First Star in January.
